Karl Lagerfeld went above and beyond with his impressively detailed set at the Chanel Fall 2014 show. The runway was transformed into a megastore in which the shelves were stacked with more than a hundred thousand items! He cleverly took everyday products and converted them into a sort of 'Chanelspeak'. No bargains found here though!
Beyond the atmosphere and sheer brilliance of the set was the fashion (oh the fashion!) that made its way down the runway. Cara Delevingne opened the show in a pink twosie - one of the many candy coloured combinations to be seen in the collection. Kendall Jenner also strutted the runway coveting a Chanel loaded shopping basket to complement her luxury workout-wear.
Most importantly, Lagerfeld has ensured the rise of the trainer in the fashion world. The Fashion Week streets saw them in multitudes but trainers have now turned couture. Lagerfeld created the collection from the shoe up, placing great importance on them and declaring they had to continue. As an athlete who lives in runners, I couldn't be happier.
Regardless, the crux of Chanel's megastore extravaganza: Fashion is a supermarket, so you might as well shop. Cheers, Karl!
